The OranjeWind offshore wind farm, a result of the 2024 partnership between RWE and TotalEnergies, aims to produce a substantial 795 megawatts of power. This energy will not only provide electricity to various projects but also create green hydrogen for local industries. The project's ultimate goal? To reduce CO2 emissions by a staggering 5 million tons annually and cut back on emissions from local refineries.
The Challenge of Offshore Foundations
Offshore wind farms, like those in the Netherlands and China, face unique challenges. As they are not built on dry land, a solid foundation is crucial. RWE tackles this by either installing turbine supports into the ocean floor or using floating foundations in deeper waters. The electricity generated is then harnessed at an offshore power station and transferred to a substation on land, where it's distributed to the local power grid.

The Netherlands' commitment to wind energy has paid off. By the end of 2024, the country's wind energy capacity had significantly increased, reaching approximately 11.7 gigawatts.
