A call for action has been made to address the lack of ethnic diversity in certain regions of England, with a bold proposal to redistribute migrants across the country. This controversial idea was put forward by Kaare Dybvad Bek, Denmark's Employment Minister, who has overseen significant immigration reforms in his own country.
Dybvad Bek expressed his concern about the stark contrast in diversity between the north and south of England, describing it as "fundamentally wrong" and a form of segregation. He questioned why areas like Somerset and Dorset, which he had visited with his family, should not also contribute to the nation's efforts to embrace diversity.
"I think it is wrong to give special rights based on ethnicity or religion. We need a society where everyone has equal rights," he stated during an event in Westminster.
Denmark, under the leadership of the Social Democratic Party, has implemented one of the toughest immigration systems in Europe. They have taken a firm stance on integration, with a law allowing the demolition of apartment blocks in areas with a high concentration of non-Western residents, known as the "Ghetto law."
Dybvad Bek defended this radical approach, arguing that it was necessary to address social issues and encourage integration. He highlighted the example of an estate in Denmark's third-largest city, where a large proportion of residents are from non-Western countries and face high unemployment rates.
"We want these areas to become more inclusive and attractive to working and middle-class families," he explained, adding that public housing has been introduced in wealthy areas to distribute the responsibility of integration across Denmark.
The Danish government has also explored processing asylum claims outside the country, but these plans have been shelved in favor of building relationships with European partners.
In a warning to left-wing parties, Dybvad Bek emphasized the need for democratic control over migration flows, stating that addressing public concerns about immigration is crucial to prevent the rise of populist governments.
"This issue is complex and requires a balanced approach. While we must embrace diversity, we also need to ensure fair opportunities for all. What are your thoughts on this proposal? Do you think it's a step towards a more inclusive society, or does it raise concerns about forced integration?"
